If we were having coffee together, I would tell you about my marriage. I’ve learned that marriage is one of the most difficult journeys at times, yet one of God’s biggest gifts in the world. I would tell you how thankful I am to be married to a man who loves Jesus, because let’s face it: that’s the most important thing of all.
If we were having coffee together, I’d ask you what movies or TV shows you’re into. Right now, I’m re-watching the Gilmore Girls series to put in time until the new series comes out in November. I’ve also started watching Bones on Netflix, and Isaac is into it now, too. If I were recommending a TV series to you, I would definitely encourage you to watch anything BBC.
If we were having coffee together, I would tell you about my love/hate relationship with ebooks. I’d ask you about which you prefer. Ebooks are handy to have all on one device, I know. They’re easier for travel, I know. And yes, I can highlight in them. But really, I miss a good hardcover or paperback book. I love being able to feel the pages, make notes in the margins, and read along with a cup of coffee without the fear of spilling it on my device.
If we were having coffee together, I would ask you your favourite sweet potato recipe. I’m so desperately trying to come up with new recipes, but I don’t want to risk having a Pinterest fail. I have a couple sweet potatoes laying out on the countertop, and I’d like to cook something up with them.
If we were having coffee together, I would explain to you just how frustrated I am. I’m frustrated because my body is still in pain every day. I had a surgery date, and then it was cancelled on me. Now, they tell me it’ll be sometime in September. “Oh, we’ll call you soon with your surgery date for September”. Still no call yet. At this point, I’ve had unresolved pain for over half of the time I’ve been married. I keep telling Isaac, “If you’ve been able to have such a great marriage with me while I’ve been sick, just imagine how great our marriage will be when I’m healthy!”.
If we were having coffee together, we’d talk about new books. You guys, there are so many fabulous books out this year, but today is release day for two really amazing books. Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist and Uninvited by Lysa TerKeurst were both released yesterday, and I just can’t wait to start reading!
If we were having coffee together, I would tell you about my cocker spaniel, Lilly. We’d laugh about the silly things she does, like telling people when to go to bed or waking my father up from a nap. I would tell you about the first night she was home, and how I woke up to a ‘present’ on my pillow (if you catch my drift). You would likely think I’m a bit of a crazy dog lady, but that’s just fine with me. There are worse titles I could have.
If we were having coffee together, I’d recommend this recipe to you. I’d tell you to find/buy the ingredients and make it for dinner. It’s one of our favourites, and I just made it the other night. I tell you, I could never get tired of this casserole. That’s why it’s going on our meal plan list. Plus, it makes enough for leftovers for work lunches – it’s a winner!
