A New Beginning

For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a teacher.

Sure, other career options came to mind, but teaching–and spending my days with kiddos–always came back to mind. In university, I loved my education courses, and dove head-first into all I could learn about education. When I completed my internship/student teaching, I knew beyond any doubt that teaching was (and is) my calling in life. So when I was contacted last year about a full-time teaching position, in my hometown, and in a brand-new school, I prayed & jumped at the opportunity.

At the time, I was teaching in an after-school program while substitute teaching, but my heart was definitely longing for a full-time position in my own classroom (there’s nothing like it!).

That was last fall.

And here we are: August 15.

So much has happened–including a move back home, a new job for Isaac, buying school supplies, and hoarding files from Teachers Pay Teachers (the most wonderful resource in the entire world). Time has flown, and it’s so hard to believe we’re nearly a year into this journey. In less than three weeks, my students will be arriving in their classroom! This is such a wild, amazing ride that God has us on, and I can’t wait to share more about my teaching experience.

This week, I’ve gone into the school to get things arranged and prepared for my students. It’s been so wonderful to spend some time getting used to my new space, and decorating has been so fun (though there’s still a bit to be done!). It’ll make my day to see my students seeing the room fully decorated for the first time. Here’s to a new school, a brand-new teacher, and some incredible kiddos.

Happy back to school!

  • What a lovely classroom! I always dreaded decorating my classroom, but maybe that was why I went into secondary education–so I could get away with it more 🙂
