Isaac and I met in university where I was pursuing a B.A. in Education and he was pursuing one in Ministry. We met during my freshman year, and Isaac was in his junior year of school. He worked in the cafeteria (known to fellow students as “The Caf”), and I was the shy “Soup Girl” who ate soup for nearly every meal. Isaac said, “Hi!” once, but we never spoke again…
That is, until Isaac commented on a picture I had on Facebook. A comment turned into a message, which turned into another, and then before we knew it, we were talking constantly: me in New Brunswick, and him in Hong Kong – 8,000 miles away.
After countless text messages, FaceTime calls, and Facebook messages, we decided to meet up during Isaac’s graduation weekend in 2014. We had our ‘official’ first date with DQ Blizzards and a movie in the university student centre. The ice cream was good, but the company was even better.
After asking for my parent’s blessing, Isaac asked me to be his girlfriend in the summer of 2014. We grew even closer, even though a great distance was separating us.
In the spring of 2015, Isaac returned to Canada: this time, it was to stay. I was over-the moon. We had ‘actual’ dates! We loved every minute of them.
On September 3rd, 2015, after over a year of dating, Isaac proposed to me in one of our favourite spots: our university chapel. My family helped make the surprise happen, and it was beautiful in every way. I said yes, of course, and lots of happy tears were shed.
The ring? It was BEAUTIFUL.
On December 19th, 2015, Isaac and I were married in my parent’s church, with my father officiating. It was the most beautiful day, and our long distance was oh-so worth it. Now, we’ve been married nearly two years, and life has been a wonderful adventure so far!
